1. Using Slash Command (/chat)
Direct Access
Step 1: Enter Command
Type /chat prompt: followed by your question, request, or task (legacy /ai chat also supported).
Step 2: Autonomous Execution
Dexel displays a live progress status. The agent autonomously selects tools such as web search, Python code sandbox execution, math calculations, or arXiv academic lookup.
Step 3: Multi-Step Plans
If a request requires multiple actions (for example, batch moderation or server configurations), Dexel presents an interactive Implementation Plan with Approve, Modify, and Cancel buttons before executing.
Step 4: Output Delivery
Dexel delivers the response directly in chat. Long responses are split cleanly across Discord message boundaries while preserving code block formatting.
2. Setting Up a Dedicated AI Channel
Server Setup
Step 1: Open Server AI Settings
Run /ai config and switch to the Server AI Configuration tab. Requires Manage Server permission.
Step 2: Bind Channel
Under Channel Binding, select the target text channel (for example, #ai-lounge or #ask-dexel).
Step 3: Configure Reply Mode
Choose whether Dexel quotes the user message when replying or sends standard messages without quote pings.
Step 4: Chat Naturally
Members can now type directly in the channel without slash commands. Dexel responds to messages, mentions, attached images, and voice messages.
Step 5: Selective Ignore
Add --ignore anywhere in a message to make Dexel skip processing that message.
3. Chatting in Direct Messages (DMs)
Personal
Step 1: Open Direct Message
Send a direct message to Dexel on Discord.
Step 2: Accept Terms
On your initial interaction, Dexel displays a prompt to accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. Click Accept to activate DM chat.
Step 3: Text, Images, and Audio
You can send regular text questions, attach images for multimodal analysis, or send voice clips. Voice messages are transcribed via Whisper and confirmed before processing.
Step 4: Quota & Priority
If you have a Personal BYOK key configured, Dexel uses your custom key with zero daily token deductions. If not, queries consume your daily free user quota (500,000 tokens).
4. Support Ticketing AI Triage
Ticketing
Step 1: Enable AI in Ticket Setup
Run /ticket config to open the ticketing setup wizard (requires Dexel Premium). In step 6 of the wizard, set AI Auto-Response to Enabled.
Step 2: Define System Prompt & FAQs
Set a custom prompt guiding how the AI greets users and addresses common issues. Add server FAQs via /ai config under Knowledge Base. The AI references these FAQs when triaging tickets.
Step 3: Autonomous First-Line Resolution
When a user opens a ticket and enters their issue, Dexel AI immediately replies inside the private ticket thread using server documentation, FAQs, and ticket parameters.
Step 4: Automatic Human Handoff
When any support staff member sends a message in the ticket thread, or clicks the Take Over button on the control panel, Dexel AI automatically deactivates (ai_active = false) and yields full control to human staff.
Step 5: Ticket Closure & Summary
When the ticket is closed with /ticket close, Dexel exports the full chat transcript and generates an automated AI resolution summary in the configured log channel.
5. Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
BYOK
Overview
BYOK allows servers and users to connect their own API credentials. Requests processed through custom keys completely bypass Dexel daily token limits.
Supported Providers
Google Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Groq, Grok (xAI), OpenRouter, and Custom OpenAI-compatible base URLs.
Server BYOK Setup
Server administrators open /ai config → Server AI Configuration → Providers. Enter your API key and select the active model. All server interactions will route through this key.
Personal BYOK Setup
Any user can open /ai config → Personal AI Configuration → Providers. Enter your API key and model. This key is used in DMs and in servers that allow personal keys.
Key Security
All API keys are encrypted at rest with AES-256 before storage in the database. Keys are never exposed in Discord messages, logs, or UI panels.
Resolution Hierarchy
In DMs: Personal Key → Dexel Default Gemini Pool.
In Servers: Personal Key (if allowed by server admin or user is admin) → Server Key → Dexel Default Gemini Pool.

Token Quotas
Free tier provides 500,000 tokens per day per user (1,000,000 tokens shared server pool). Dexel Premium expands this to 5,000,000 tokens per day. Quotas reset automatically every day at 00:00 UTC.

Discord can take a few minutes to sync global application commands. Ensure you invited Dexel with the bot and applications.commands OAuth2 scopes. If they still don't appear, re-authorize using the official invite link.
Why did Dexel fail to timeout or ban a member?
Check your Discord Role Hierarchy. In Server Settings → Roles, Dexel's role must be dragged higher than the role of the member being moderated. Bots cannot discipline users with equal or higher roles.
Why is voice transcription returning an error?
Ensure the audio attachment does not exceed the 25 MB limit and is in a supported container format (.ogg, .mp3, .wav, .m4a, .flac, .webm).
How do I claim my 5 daily coins?
